SHARE THE CARE: Our Health Ministry

Our Share the Care program supports individuals who are ill, suffering or who may have experienced a significant loss. Care is provided to individuals and families.

The Share the Care program was introduced to the parish in 1997. Volunteers from St. Barnabas provide transportation to church functions and medical appointments. They make home visits and phone calls to the homebound. Hot meals are prepared and delivered to members of the parish who may be recovering from surgery or an illness. Meals are also delivered to new parents.

Irene Shepard is the coordinator of the Share the Care program. Irene is the communications link between an individual and family that need support and the volunteers who provide support. Irene makes follow up calls to inquire about any further services that our volunteers might provide and to see how those who have received care are doing.

JoAnn Peak coordinates our Greeting Card Ministry. JoAnn also graciously serves as the back-up coordinator of Share the Care. Weekly JoAnn contacts our parish administrator, Carol Anderson; Irene Shepard, the coordinator of the Share the Care program; and the clergy to identify members of the parish who would benefit from receiving a greeting card. Each Sunday morning there are greetings cards to be signed. Members of the parish participate, sending their thoughts and best wishes to others.

Another way we care for one another is through our Prayer Shawl ministry. Members of the parish knit or crochet colorful prayer shawls that are made specifically with a particular member of the parish in mind. Each shawl represents many, many prayers that were prayed while the shawl was being created. Each prayer shawl is blessed before it is given to its new owner.

The clergy makes Pastoral Care calls. Rev. Paul Garrett, Rev. Deb Angell, and Rev. Bill Miles visit parishioners who are homebound, or in the hospital.
